Just in case you’re not sick of sweets after Halloween, I’ve got a naughty treat for you today! You may have tried Fried Oreos at your state fair but if you’ve never made them at home, it is surprisingly easy. Now I will admit, this is definitely not a food you need to eat everyday… so let’s just call this what it is: a once-in-a-while decadence.
I opted for DoubleStuf Oreos but you experiment with your favorite cookie variation. I’ll say it was pretty hard to resist S’mores Oreos and Brownie Batter Oreos at the grocery store but I chose to go with the original for this recipe.
I confess I’ve indulged in Fried Oreos one time prior to this. They were tempura battered and crispy so I wasn’t sure how the pancake batter in this recipe would turn out but let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed. These things are GOOD. Ridiculously GOOD. Should be illegal GOOD. Use the buddy system and DO NOT leave yourself alone with a plate of these babies. You have been warned. Recipe and directions below. Enjoy responsibly!
1 cup pancake mix
2/3 cup of milk
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
18 Oreo cookies
Vegetable oil or canola oil for frying
Confectioner’s sugar (optional)
Freeze 18 Oreo cookies for about an hour.
Fill a heavy cooking pot with 2-3 inches of cooking oil and heat to 375°F.
Combine pancake mix, milk, egg, and vegetable oil in large bowl and whisk until smooth.
Dip a cookie in the mixture and completely cover it so you can’t see through the batter.
Carefully drop the coated cookie(s) in the hot oil and fry on each side just until golden brown.
Remove cookie from oil with tongs and drain on paper towels.
Dust with confectioner’s sugar and enjoy while still warm.
