It’s Fat Tuesday! And in celebrating Mardi Gras, look no further than New Orleans, known to some as NOLA or The Big Easy. Locals and tourists alike know that this town is home to a very special delicacy. In fact, you really can’t get far in the French Quarter without the enticing pull of one of the city’s favorite items – beignets, which are classic French donuts sprinkled with generous amounts of powdered sugar. These little guys are so popular that there are cafes with their entire menus devoted to them. Whether you’re making a stop at Cafe du Monde or Cafe Beignet, you’re in for a real treat. But did you know you can easily make them at home?
Traditionally served at Cafe du Monde in baskets of three, these square pieces of flat dough are tossed into cottonseed oil, where they fluff up luxuriously and quickly become the centerpiece of your morning, alongside some piping hot cafe au lait, of course.
