French Toast PB&J

Don’t get schooled in the kitchen! Instead, take notes in our Sandwich School videos and ace your favorite sandwich recipe every time. Sandwiches seem so simple, but how many times have you ended up with a scorched grilled cheese, soggy PB&J, or sad ham sandwich?

Let’s focus on PB&J, the otherwise boring brown bag default that has been banned from many schools due to its allergic reaction-inducing main ingredient. If your child’s favorite nutty sandwich has been booted, try making French Toast Peanut Butter and Jelly for breakfast (or dinner) instead! The kiddos will love lending a helping hand in the kitchen, and you’ll love that this sandwich update only requires a handful of pantry staples to prepare. And if your little ones do have allergies, simply replace the peanut butter with another nut butter. Sunflower seed butter is a great alternative for those with peanut allergies.

Watch our hands-only video with your kids to learn the basics of this recipe. Seeing what the finished product looks like will help them grasp the recipe, while giving their tummies something to look forward to! Let them combine and whisk the wet ingredients, spread strawberry preserves and peanut butter on soft slices of white whole-wheat bread, and dust the finished sandwich with powdered sugar. Leave the cooking up to mom or dad to protect little hands from burns. Serve the finished sandwiches with sliced fruit and a tall glass of milk to wash it down. Easy, right?
