The “press”ure was on at Food Network Star this week. Contestants were challenged to create a single bite that represents who they are and present it to the network and a panel of media judges from SeriousEats.com, Entertainment Weekly and Entertainment Tonight.
Martie Duncan hit this challenge out of the park. Serving a chocolate roulage filled with bourbon cream, Martie told how being pranked by sorority girls was the genesis of her party-throwing drive.
So, about this “roulage” cake roll… The French may call cake baked in a jelly roll pan, topped with a sweet filling and rolled like a jelly roll, “roulade.” In Martie’s hometown of Birmingham (and across much of the south) it is know as “roulage.” Any way you say it, it’s creamy, chocolaty and delicious.
SPOILER: Martie and Justin won the challenge, but it wasn’t all good news for team Alton. Emily, Nikki and Martita were the bottom three and faced the Producers Challenge. Emily was sent home.
