Gourmet Housewares Show Find of the Day: Brewed Chocolate

By Ashley Johnson

Brewedchocolate Finally! A reason for Chocoholics to get out of bed in the morning: Brewed Chocolate, by Cabaret Foods.  Cabaret took the idea of brewing coffee beans and dared to improve upon it by substituting cocoa beans where previously only coffee beans had trod.  Brewed for four hours then condensed into thick syrup, the concentrated mix can be added to milk or water.  We loved the classic water-and-brewed-chocolate combo, which resulted in a delicious beverage that looked like tea, tasted like chocolate, and fixed our chocolate craving morning, noon, afternoon, evening,  later evening, and night.  We had more than our fair share of samples, then declared it Find of the Day at the 2008 Gourmet Housewares show in Las Vegas.  We're planning on sneaking a few more cups before seeking out tomorrow's winner.

I tried some at the office. They sent some samples to share with the MyRecipes staff.

Holley -

Did you try the brewed chocolate at The Gourmet Housewares show?

I just tried the brewed chocolate and was really impressed. I made it with water and it tasted a bit like chocolate-flavored tea. I'm eager to try it with milk and coffee. It was surprisingly refreshing and didn't leave me feeling full the way some hot chocolate drinks do.
