Here’s the simple answer: No.
Now, here’s a slightly—and I mean slightly—more complex answer: Despite what you may have read in the past (like, “Always add salt before!” or “Never, your water will take forever”) there’s no discernible difference. If adding your salt does make water boil faster, said time is so minuscule you won’t notice the difference. I’m taking a minute to write this out, because there seems to be so much back-and-forth about something that doesn’t actually make much of a difference… and there just ain’t no sense in that.
So, add salt before the water comes to a boil or after. It doesn’t matter. In the end, you have salted boiling water either way. Which means, it’s time to make pasta. So get to work on enjoying your summer produce while it lasts in one of our favorite summer pasta dishes.
