National Tequila Day Is This Sunday, and You Know What That Means…

A lot of national food “holidays” (seriously, who makes these holidays?) are, in a word, lame. Booze holidays, though? Booze is fun. A celebratory “reason” to drink is exceptionally fun. Therefore, booze holidays are especially exceptionally fun.

National Tequila Day is Sunday. And as the holiday festivities rulebook states, celebration for any given holiday can start within a two-day period prior to said holiday (i.e. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Also, we totally just made up this rule, but it’s still valid.

So we’re celebrating starting… now(ish). Here are some of our favorite tequila cocktails, spiked food, and boozy desserts to gear up for an exceptionally festive Sunday funday. Party on, people.

Blueberry Margaritas

There’s also these: classic, hibiscus-lemon, watermelon-mint, and blackberry margs. We’ll take one of each, thanks. For super crisp and clean summer-inspired margaritas, we really dig Tres Agaves Blanco tequila. It’s a hella smooth choice at a great price point.

Cherry-Orange Tequila Cocktail

Just look at those layers (the key is slowly pouring each ingredient).

 Jalapeño-Tequila Smash

The spice is, as they say, nice.

Cucumber-Mint Tequila Tonic

A bigger batch cocktail for you and all your friends (or just you—kidding, maybe).

Cucumber, Honey, and Thyme Margarita Slush

Boozy slushies are arguably one of the best things about being an adult.

Grapefruit-Tequila Fizz

Grapefruit’s so hot right now (Get it? Because of the jalapeño).

Actual, you know, food:

Tequila Slaw with Lime and Cilantro

Serve it on tacos, with barbecue chicken, with grilled steak, or on sandwiches.

Tequila-Glazed Chicken Thighs

Sweet pineapple juice balances out this boozy glaze.

Grilled Chicken Tequila Burgers

Don’t forget the cilantro-lime mayonnaise.

Tequila-Lime Shrimp with Cilantro

A tequila-soaked take on shrimp on the barbie.

Dessert (because of course):

Tequila-Lime Meringue Pie

Key lime custard gets a kick from a bit of tequila.

Margarita “Poptails”

These pops are definitely not for kids.

Frozen Margarita Pie

Because who doesn’t want a little chocolate pie crust with there alcohol?
