What We’re Making for Our Fourth of July Barbecue

What happens when two food sites host a Fourth of July company barbecue? Hint: It’s a lot (like, a lot a lot) of food. There will be potato skins, pimento cheese, slaw, brownies, pie, and did I say a lot of food? Thankfully, we’re ordering-in the barbecue (can you imagine having to manage a smoker on a weekday?), so we just have to worry about appetizers, sides, desserts, and drinks. Here’s what we, the staff of MyRecipes and Cooking Light, will be making for our company barbecue:

Appetizers

What’s a great appetizer table without a platter of stuffed potatoes? Appetizers that are easy to grab and go are the ultimate winners here.

Side dishes

To complement our BBQ spread, we’re going for side dishes that have a great flavor and work really well against that tangy barbecue backdrop. Slaw, broccoli salads, and fruit salads are our picks of choice.

Desserts

To cover all the bases, we’ve got cake, brownies, and cookies. Two different types of cake means that all the cake-lovers are happy, and a plateful of pie, brownies, and cookies means that the non-cake lovers are also happy. Everybody wins!

Drinks

Along with obviously having plenty of water on hand, local beer, and chilled wine, it always helps to have something on the sweet side as well. Enter lemonade. If you’re going to do lemonade, it’s worth it to do it really, really well, which is why we love this classic recipe:
