If you’ve ever baby talked while you walked an adorable baby carrot to take a widdle dunk in the Ranch pool, then you know that passion for tiny vegetables can run deep, but did you know that baby carrots are (spoiler alert!) just carrot pieces cut out of ugly, larger carrots deemed too imperfect to sell?
Finally, though, ugly veggies (sorry, veggies) are getting their due. They’ve got hashtags (#uglyproduceisbeautiful), Twitter handles (with over 60,000 followers!), and even a deal with Whole Foods, who partnered with Imperfect Produce to sell less-than-perfect fruits and vegetables.
What do you think: Would you buy, cook, and serve ugly produce? Our Editors’ opinion? Why not? They’ll taste the same and, by going the imperfect route, you’re helping reduce food waste. Plus, they’re actually pretty darn cute.

Could we eat him? No. Because he’s ugly? Not at all. Googly eyes make anything look like it has a soul. Seriously. Put them on a lamp and you’ll find yourself talking to it.
One eye? Double cute. Stick arms? BRB. Dying of cuteness.
Not sure we could eat this bad boy, but he’d definitely get some paper thought bubbles taped to him. Daily.
The last time this happened to me, it’s because I planted carrots in too-firm soil. That or over an old concrete slab. Stumpy carrots are still delicious, they just take a little longer to cook.

The reality is, we’re likely not going to use that crazy lemon up there for its zest, not because it’s ugly, but because the surface area would cause a lot more work. But would we use it for juice, or to roast with a whole chicken? Definitely.
