Kick back, relax, crack open a cold one, and then daydream about using the rest of that six pack in these amazing beer-infused dishes. With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, we’re happy to remind folks that you can do more with beer than just turn it green, although we’ll gladly to show you how easy it is to do that. Today, we’re talking pot roasts, chili, beer-battered fish, macaroni and cheese, and oh yeah, some chocolate cake (yes, really.) So as you’re looking at the rest of that six pack in the fridge, let the wheels start spinning. Let’s check out our favorite beer-infused picks below:
1.) Beer-Braised Top Blade Roast
This pot roast combines some great flavors with onions, bacon, and of course, a whole bottle of your favorite beer to give that extra punch of flavor that ups the game on pot roasts everywhere.
2.) Beer-Battered Fried Fish
No need to run down to the local seafood joint to get your hands on some amazing fried fish. It can be done at home with just as great of flavors and that perfect crunch that makes fried fish so tantalizing. Any type of white, flaky fish works well here, and of course a whole bottle of beer lends a summer feel to this vacation-worthy dish.
3.) Beer-Braised Pot Roast
You’ll need two bottles of beer for this feast. Served over potatoes and roasted vegetables, this pot roast is no ordinary pot roast. In fact, along with the beer in this recipe, this roast starts out with coffee! The beef is rubbed down with coffee before it simmers in beer and beef stock in the slow-cooker, lending it a magnificent array of amazing flavors.
4.) Stout Mac and Cheese
St. Patrick’s Day just wouldn’t be complete without a bottle (or two or three) of Guinness. Even better, to pair with that, why not also have some Guinness-infused macaroni and cheese? I know, right? Getting hungry yet? Dark beer lovers will absolutely go crazy over this dish because it’s deliciously cheesy and also has that hint of bitter, malty flavor from the beer.
5.) Beef and Guinness Stew
While we’re on the subject of Guinness, let’s just add another bottle to another amazing stew. This stew will transport you to a quaint Irish pub with its warmth and hearty ingredients. You can use whatever kind of beer you’d like, but a darker beer of course will add some more of that great bitter and malty flavor.
7.) Maple-Stout Quick Bread
Stout beer, like Guinness, with its dark color and really solid flavor, compliments the sweetness of this bread by giving it a darker, slightly bitter background. If you’ve never tried baking with beer, quick breads like this are a good place to start!
8.) Stout Chocolate Cake
Feeling a little more adventurous? By adding a whole bottle of dark beer to chocolate cake batter, the dark chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate really gets its time to shine. Because the beer gives the cake a slightly bitter undertone, the sweetness of the other ingredients really get to soar.
