“Kristen Kish. She’s young, but man, she’s incredible. I’ve been a huge fan of Top Chef since season 1 and watching Kristen on season 10 was really what inspired me to start cooking. Really watching Kristen and Brooke Williamson, season 10 Runner-Up, make these gorgeous, creative dishes all season was incredibly inspiring. What I loved most about Kristen’s story, was her journey and perseverance through Last Chance Kitchen, Top Chef’s online show which airs online following the episode. Last Chance Kitchen gives the eliminated chefs a chance to compete against each other to get back into the final competition. Well, Kristen just absolutely dominated and did it with grace and such a positive attitude. She created these innovative dishes that are absolutely gorgeous. “I’ve been following Chef April Bloomfield’s career since I moved to New York City in 2008 and was given a crash course in the NYC food scene by my new boss. Since then I’ve been a sort of silent fan-girl, eating at her restaurants both in New York and San Francisco. She turned Americans onto high-quality burgers in 2004, way before it was cool for a Michelin level chef to own a burger joint (ahem, gastropub). You won’t find April judging some new reality show – you’ll find her on PBS’ The Mind of a Chef, where you’ll watch awe-struck as she communicates with ingredients on a telepathic level, from the petal of an artichoke to the yolk of an egg. My husband and I usually argue about who will sit in the middle on our way to the West Coast, of course I almost always get the window. Guess who showed up and sat in the aisle seat a few years back and sat next to the hubby? Yup, April. I was basically hyperventilating the whole six hours, probably a good thing I won the window. I did work up the courage to speak with her after landing and she was gracious and gave me her card and invited me to come and see the yet-to-be-open at the time Tosca Cafe. While I have the utmost respect for many women in the industry for many different reasons, when it comes to who is cooking the best possible food with the best possible ingredients and doing it with humility and grace, there is only one person, man or women, and it is April Bloomfield, truly a chef’s chef.” -Anna Bullet, Cooking Light & MyRecipes Executive Chef, RD
