Saturday Night Live called it in 2010–Kids Today Are Souping.
In 2010 Bill Hader, covering the Dangerous Teenage Fads as Peter DeSantos, called it: Kids These Days Are Souping.
What is Souping, you ask? Well, no one knows, but apparently it was suppose to be a way for those kooky teenage kids to get high by drinking expired soup. Unfortunately, the average teen DeSantos spoke with (Emma Stone), had no idea what he was talking about, and he completely lost her when he accused her of trampolining, which involved a racy explanation of Silly Bandz.
So here we are, six years later, and people actually are Souping. Instead of juicing or shake-based meal replacements, millennials are going toward five liquid-based meals instead of three square ones. The difference? Taste, and the lack of sugar rush. The New York Times reported one sample menu that included three soups namely, “pinto and black beans cooked with tomatoes and morsels of spinach and bok choy; garlicky carrots mixed with onions and alkaline water; and puréed pumpkin spiked with cardamom and Saigon cinnamon.”
Are people done with the green drink? Is this a shift from cool drinks to warm, heartier ones?
