Today, we’re featuring an episode from Cooking Light’s insightful video series of Simple Swaps starring executive chef and registered dietician Anna Bullet. Before the holidays, we introduced a two ways in which you could swap out ingredients and foods in order to achieve results in healthy eating. Whether you were looking to swap out carbs or make healthier eating choices while dining out, we hope those simple tips helped you achieve a healthier lifestyle. Today we’re going to be talking about heart-healthy meal planning and the simple ways in which this can be done. It’s a new year after all, and we believe that sticking to your healthy eating resolutions doesn’t have to be difficult.

Is it really possible to be heart healthy, save money, and time? Yes, it really is! Anna’s advice? Plan ahead. Those who take care of their meal planning ahead of time, such as on the weekends, tend to save more money because they don’t make as many impulse buys and also don’t eat out so much over the week, which can add up in extra calories as well. Making a list also helps save time, because it keeps you from wandering up and down the grocery store aisles wondering what to make for dinner that night. Taking the time to plan ahead also eliminates the problem of having to make a repeat trip to the store in the middle of the week to grab something that was forgotten the first time. If you’re sticking to a healthier lifestyle, it pays to pack your grocery cart with heart-healthy and nutrient rich foods such as fish, whole grains, beans, nuts, berries, and vegetables. We’re huge fans of making healthy eating as easy as can be, so if you try this tactic, even for just a week, let us know how you liked it in the comments below!
