The Gift of a Homemade Meal

Pan-Seared Steak with Chive-Horseradish Butter

Have you finished your holiday shopping, yet? I can’t help but feeling like I’m forgetting something, no matter how many times I go to the store. If you’re like most people this time of year, you’ll probably make a few late-night runs for stocking stuffers and last-minute sales next week. There’s nothing wrong with that, but don’t buy stuff just to buy stuff. The best gifts come from the heart! A handmade ornament, heartfelt card, or even a special meal are all ways to say “I love you” without sitting in holiday traffic or fighting someone for a parking space at the mall.

Ladies, we all know that men are particularly hard to shop for this time of year. What do you get a guy who has every piece of University of Alabama memorabilia ever made (i.e. my dad)? I was at a loss here, folks, until I remembered that my dad loves my cooking. What’s the best way to a person’s heart? STEAK. Even if the tree falls over, the cookies burn, and the dog eats the presents, your family will remember how you lovingly prepared a gourmet meal like the one in the video below. Steak is simple and delicious, so serve it with easy sides like roasted sweet potatoes and Broccolini.
