In my experience with eggnog, people either love it or hate it. It’s one of those holiday traditions that’s been around for so long, no one knows where it came from or why it started. The hot spiked milk drink probably has origins in Great Britain, where a similar beverage was consumed by the aristocracy. Brandy, rum, or sherry would be added to the base ingredients, just as is often done today, to give the drink a little (or a lotta) kick.
Just like gingerbread houses, candy canes, and fruitcake, eggnog is one of those seasonal products that only shows up on shelves during the holidays. However, you could make homemade eggnog year-round if you’re really into it, and we won’t stop you!
