We’re following College GameDay this week to the Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida to watch the No. 22 Clemson Tigers take on the No. 1 Florida State Seminoles. This is the second year in a row that GameDay has covered this huge ACC showdown. If you’re not going to the game, catch it this Saturday, September 20 at 8:00 PM EST on ABC. If you are going, be prepared for a full day of tailgating.
Since it’s a late kick-off, you will need plenty of good food to sustain you and all your friends through the day and still have the energy you need to cheer on your team after dark. Luckily, we have taken the guesswork out of planning the menu, no matter who you pull for.
Cheering for the Seminoles? It’s a home game for Florida State so you know fans will be tomahawk chopping everywhere you turn. Join the party by throwing your own chop (on the grill) and washing it down with a refreshing Florida spritzer (just add your favorite booze).
Succotash is a traditional Native American dish which makes it the perfect side for a Seminoles tailgate. What a great way to use up the last of your summer produce. We are betting it would even taste fantastic dipped with a tortilla chip!
Finish up your meal with one of Florida’s most classic flavors: Key Lime Cupcakes. Perfectly portioned and easier to serve than pie, these treats can be transported in a plastic cupcake carrier.
Rooting for the underdogs? Show your Clemson team spirit by making these Chipotle-Orange Chicken Legs. Marinate the chicken ahead in a large zip top plastic bag and just throw them on the grill when you are ready. Add wings to the mix and turn this recipe into a crowd-pleasing appetizer. Beer got you bored? Make a pitcher of orange cocktails and you’ll instantly be transformed into the big man (or woman) on campus!
Low Country Boil is the way to go for the main course. Not only is it perfect for fans hailing from South Carolina, but it cooks fast and doesn’t require utensils. Just pour the pot out on a newspaper-covered picnic table and dig in. Easy to make and easy to clean up!
Finally, these Tiger’s Eye Brownies will satisfy your sweet tooth and top off your tank. Make a pan or two and watch them disappear.
