Here are a few tips you may want to keep in mind as you prepare large meals this holiday season!
1. Have a garbage bowl. Limit your trips to the trash can. Set an extra bowl out on the counter as you cook. It can collect all the potato skins, onion bits, and trimmed fat from the ingredients of your meal, not to mention any packaging or containers.
2. Line your roasting pans with aluminum foil. You’ll get the benefit of a heavy metal pan with the ease and convenience of a quick cleanup. Line the pan thoroughly, and you might not even need to wash it afterward.
3. Water is the best cleanup tool. Set pots and pans in the sink, and fill them with hot water to soak while you’re at dinner. For really burned-on bits and ever caramelized sugar, deglaze the mess: Fill the skillet or pan halfway with water, cover it, bring it to a boil over high heat, and boil for 1 minute. There’ll be much less scrubbing afterward. Just be sure not to follow this procedure with a nonstick skillet. It will damage the pan. It’s not recommended to heat nonstick skillets above medium-high heat.
