Cake of the Week: White Sheet Cake

Football season is finally upon us! While that is exciting on its own, football season also brings with it all its glorious, grilled and tasty, tailgating food. Because I’m the one in my family and group of friends who always brings the dessert, I absolutely love the idea of this White Sheet Cake. Layer cakes are fun to make, but sometimes they’re not the best option for tailgates or large parties of over-excited and cheering fans. A sheet cake, on the other hand, would be much more practical. Plus, this one is decorated with various team colors and logos, so everyone will be happy!

This recipe is also very simple! Only six ingredients are needed to make this cake, so it’s incredibly easy. When you need to prepare a good bit of food for a tailgate or game-watching-party, easy is the way to go. I’m always nervous when I have to transport a layer cake because I’ve had cakes slide apart during car rides, but you don’t have to worry about that with a sheet cake.

If you would like to tailor this cake more to your team, you could always add some food coloring to the cake batter or decorate it with frosting in just one team’s colors. Southern Living even created these Team Colors Frosting Formulas so you can get the colors just right!

No matter which team you pull for or who’s playing, you can never go wrong with a colorful and fun cake.
