While the French celebrate The Storming of the Bastille, we Americans celebrate by storming the kitchen, in true French fashion, of course. I love any excuse for a French feast, and Bastille Day fits the bill. With these recipes, you can plan a Bastille Day soiree that will make Julia Child jealous.

Baked Brie with Honey



No French soiree is complete without cheese. Add a sweet start to your celebration with baked Brie dressed in honey. Pair with grapes, apples, and dried figs for a nearly effortless hors d’oeuvre. 

Champagne Cocktail


And of course, if you plan to eat like the French, you have to drink like them too. A classic champagne cocktail pairs well with the baked Brie. Laced with the sweetness of a single sugar cube, allow guests to indulge before the meal even begins. 

Summer Squash, Bacon, and Mozzarella Quiche


Combine your garden’s bounty (or your farmers’ market finds) of summer squash with bacon and mozzarella for a lighter dish on a steamy summer evening. Add shallots, thyme, and black pepper to complete a palate-pleasing quiche. 

Espresso Crepes with Ice Cream and Dark Chocolate Sauce


It’s certainly no secret that the French know their desserts. The coffee and chocolate flavors in these five-ingredient crepes mingle to craft a finale fit for a French bakery. Make both the crepes and sauce ahead, then simply warm before serving.
