New Real Simple Cookbook

Our friends at Real Simple have just come out with a new cookbook: Easy, Delicious Home Cooking. If the idea of home cooking conjures up the image of you in an apron spending hours and hours in the kitchen, think again. This cookbook has over 100 recipes that take 30 minutes or less, plus time-saving tips, make-ahead suggestions, and other quick-fix tricks for dinnertime and entertaining.  It is from Real Simple, after all,  and their motto is "Life made easier".

I like that the organization of the recipes is by season so that you can take advantage of the ingredients that are at their peak in the market.  Each chapter has a fun section featuring a Master Recipe with 5 variations.  For example, in the Summer chapter, there is a basic recipe for a burger (beef, salt, pepper, grill) and 5 burger variations such as Cheddar, Avocado, and Sprouts Burgers, Onion Dip and Potato Chip Burger and Chipotle Mayo and Grilled Onion Burgers.  How to decide?

At the back of the book, there is a nutrient analyis for every recipe, and for each recipe there is a hands-on time and a total time listed. You also get a photo with every recipe.

I made the Grilled Zucchini Salad with Lemons and Scallions (page 153) to serve with our grilled steaks last weekend.  Because we have a friend with a garden we end up getting a lot of zucchini in the summer so I'll be making this dish again.  With only 5 ingredients (plus salt), it's my kind of summer recipe.

Great post! Getting married is definitely a great reason to celebrate, though so many people gain weight when they are happy. As long as you are happy to work together and lose it, things will turn out great.
