Food Gifts to Mail

December 8, 2010 | By | Comments (2)

Ideas for homemade Christmas food gifts are everywhere, but I had to dig deeper to find things that are easy to mail to friends scattered around the country and world.

I didn’t want something elaborate, just something delicious with a personal touch. Glass jars, sauces, and liquids can be problematic to ship. Cookies and quick breads can go bad, unless you want to fork over major bucks for speedy shipping. Here’s what made the short list of options.

Chocolate Dipped Spoons

Hot Chocolate Spoons
Simply dip plastic spoons in chocolate and add flourishes like crushed peppermint and marshmallows. I did this a few years ago, wrapped them in plastic treat bags, and sent them to friends. Alphamom.com has a good tutorial on making the spoons.

Hot chocolate mix is always welcome on wintry days, and homemade tastes all the better. Try Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Mix for a special minty treat. Package it in plastic bags and add a festive touch with ribbon or a Christmas-themed bags like these from Martha Stewart available at Michaels.

Candy
These candy slabs are meant to be broken in pieces, so any handling in the mail is more than fine. If you want to avoid any breaking, make harder candy like Butterscotch Caramels or Candied Nuts.
