Artisanal Vodka

P1010122Charbay Let me start by saying I am not a cocktail girl. Wine and Champagne are my thing, although once in a while I have the urge to hold a martini glass and sip a very cold beverage. On those occasions I turn to the cocktail shaker and buy a bottle of my favorite flavored vodka, Charbay. While most flavored vodkas use nasty flavorings and chemicals to achieve the desired flavor, Charbay uses only organic pressed fruit. It's a family business based in the Napa Valley – the Karakasevics have been making distilled spirits for over 26 years. The vodkas are my favorite – Ruby Red Grapefruit, Meyer Lemon, Blood Orange, Red Raspberry, Green Tea, and Pomegranate. (If vodka isn't your thing try their tasty wine, tequila, rum.) Even non-vodka lovers will like this vodka; it's smooth and tastes like boozy fruit (that's a good thing). And it's easy to make a quick cocktail: add vodka, fresh juice, and a little simple syrup to a shaker and pour into a martini glass for the perfect sipper. (Their website has tons of recipes, too.) Or serve it ice-cold as an aperitif.
