Welcome to 2009! For the past two months (give or take 27), most of us have been stuffing ourselves silly with ham, turkey, sugary drinks, sweets, and enough bite-sized appetizers to fill a bathtub. Before you resolve to chain yourself to a treadmill, take a few minutes to look at the positive side of post-holiday eating, and I don’t just mean ditching the continual eggnog-induced stupor.
This year, resolve to look at the delicious meals you can and should enjoy, made with delicious and fresh ingredients. Bolster your antioxidants with dark chocolate recipes. Up your awareness with green tea dishes. Boost your flu-fighting power with a whole army of savory ingredients. And even though winter feels like it’s over, this is no time to quit your Vitamin C intake.
Instead of resolving to avoid specific dishes or ingredients (like cheese or chocolate), instead plan to try new things, expand your cooking knowledge, and maybe even add a few minutes to your workouts. Now’s the perfect time to think about getting healthy and staying fit, so when bikini season comes, you’ll be ready!
As for me? I’m going to try to break my habit of falling back on ground beef recipes when I forget to plan a meal. Taco soup and burritos are my favorites, so this year I’m going to try more meatless dishes, like Black Bean, Corn, and Zucchini Enchiladas.
