Our Favorite Hummus

Hummus_cs_x1_2Every time I host a party or am asked to bring an appetizer to a gathering, I immediately offer to bring hummus. You’ve got to taste Our Favorite Hummus from Southern Living Cooking School. I love it because it has a sturdier texture than some of the thinner commercial brands as well as bold flavors from garlic, fresh lemon juice, and cumin. This recipe is so easy that I committed it to memory quite a while ago. Best of all, it uses ingredients that can be found at any grocery store (no tahini required).

Follow these two tips for the best results: blend for at least one minute for an extra smooth consistency and don’t forget to add the water. (Water is listed in the method rather than the ingredient list so it’s easy to miss.)

When entertaining a crowd, I like to pair the traditional hummus with the two variations listed at the end of the recipe (and shown in the photo): Spicy Cilantro-Lime Hummus and Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus. Serve with English cucumber slices, pita chips, baby carrots, and bell pepper strips for a top-notch appetizer your guests are sure to love!

The posting of OUR FAVORITE HUMMUS posted by HOLLEY JOHNSON, MAY 23, 2008, in RECIPES has a problem with actually getting to said recipe. Okay, here’s what it’s all about. In the introduction it says “You’ve got to taste OUR FAVORITE HUMMUS from SOUTHERN LIVING COOKING SCHOOL.” Both OUR FAVORITE HUMMUS and SLCS direct you to the RECIPE. But guess what..a window begins to open …than just sits there, never being able to open to the recipe. I don’t know if it’s my computer or the website.
But, I would really like this recipe. Would you, could you email it to me ?? Thank you, sjl

Thanks Shirley for your comment. I’m not having trouble with the links but I’ll ask some coworkers to test it too. I’ll email you the recipe when I’m back at work or you can just go onto the MyRecipes.com home page and type “Our Favorite Hummus” into the search box.
This should take you to the recipe page. Good luck!

That looks so yummy! I can open the links, but if you can’t, just go to http://www.MyRecipes.com and type “Our Favorite Hummus” into the search field at the top. It pops right up, and it’s definitely worth the extra click!

My son loves Hummus -but doesn’t like it too lemony. I thought I would make it for him, but wonder if I need to cut down on the lemon? It looks yummy -does it have a strong lemon taste?
    Thanks.

It does have a hint of lemon so if he doesn’t care for it then I would recommend using 1 Tbsp lemon juice and sub water for the other 2 Tbsp.
